[The feed clicks on to Spike looking cheerful but a little dubious. He's sitting on an already made-bed, surrounded by four large eggs. Luckily his Trapinch is off destroying something else in another room, and his Pineco seemed content to stay sleeping on the window sill.]

Hi, it's Spike here, your friendly neighbourhood dragon.

So, everypony is out working or training right now, and I'm stuck here looking after these eggs.

[Yep, Spike may have gone a little overboard with his egg collecting. So being back at the inn 'egg-sitting' is his own fault really.]

Does anypony know exactly how to look after these guys? [He rubs an imaginary dirt mark off one with the edge of the blanket]

I mean, I'm not supposed to sit on them or anything, right? Coz that would be way too weird.... And Fluttershy went home before I came, so I can't ask her.

[He looks a little concerned now]

If anypony can give me any advice on what I'm supposed to do to hatch eggs, that would be great.

Of course I'm a dragon. I mean, I don't look like one now. But I'm definitely a dragon!

So if I wrap them up in the quilt, they should be okay then? They won't get too hot?

[He looks over at his Pineco, who is still sleeping at the window, and sighs.]

Unfortunately my pokemon aren't really...that type.

Woah hey, sorry! I just had to ask to be sure. Trust me, I know allll about how this place likes to make everybody human for whatever reason.

[He has too many friends who won't let him forget how much it sucks.]

But yeah, they will be totally fine, don't worry. You can stick a fire type next to an egg and it won't really damage them. They are surprisingly durable.

Well, at least I could already walk on two legs. That helps. My pony friend have trouble with that but it's hilarious to watch.

That's good! I'm afraid of accidentally breaking them or dropping them...Twilight and Fluttershy would both kill me.

How long do they take to hatch?

Haha, yeah you're fine. I still wouldn't go out of my way to drop them or anything but...people have tried to eat them before and couldn't even manage that. So I don't think it's possible to break them until the baby Pokémon itself is ready to break it.

As for how long, that depends on the species in question. Some can hatch in under a week, others can take as long as three.

[Spike looks over at his eggs dubiously] Less than a week? Isn't that....kind of fast? I thought eggs took ages to hatch. Three weeks is like, no time at all!

[He looks rather baffled. Whatever the joke is there, he's not getting it. Though his mun is laughing.]

Uh...hm. You know I never really thought about it but I guess you're right. Whenever the birds laid eggs in our front yard it took a lot longer for the eggs to hatch...

[A beat, and then Spike realises that of course this guy has no idea what he's referring to]

Oh right. Princess Celestia. She's our leader - she's an alicorn.

[He glances back over to his eggs.]

Yeah I've seen Fluttershy hatch eggs before, and they took ages. I wonder why they're so fast here? Especially coz the eggs are so big. Maybe Twilight knows...

Ali...corn? Is that similar to a unicorn or something? Can't say I have heard the term before.

[He shrugs.]

Like I said, I never really thought to question it. Especially since I certainly don't have any complaints about how little time it takes. The part where they hatch is one of the best parts of the Pokémon raising experience, after all!

[Spike scratches his head, trying to figure out a way of describing an alicorn.]

Well, they're sort of a unicorn and a pegasus in one. They can use magic and fly. Alicorns are pretty rare. There aren't very many in Equestria. Most ponies are either a pony, or a unicorn, or a pegasus.

[Spike looks a little dubious about John's second comment]

Oh! I didn't...realize there was a special name for those. Supernatural creatures are really more my thing than mythological ones. Learn something new every day!

[John can't help but laugh a little at the dubious look on Spike's face.]

I know what mythological creatures are, but what does supernatural mean? Is it like a really really big one?

[Spike looks curious - after hanging around Twilight long enough, he's learnt to gather information where he can.]

I suppose so. I just wasn't expecting them to hatch all at once.

...As long as they aren't as bad as Pinchy...

Oh, no! Supernatural creatures are like...ghosts and aliens and vampires and stuff. I mean I guess technically mythological creatures could be considered supernatural but there's sort of a distinction between the two in my world.

Hehe, that's a downside to getting too many eggs at once. I'm guessing Patchy is a particularly troublesome troublemaker of yours?

[Spike doesn't know what an alien or a vampire is...but he sure knows what a ghost is.]

You mean you...like ghosts? And...there are a lot of them in your world?

[Spike definitely won't be visiting any time soon.]

[Spike sighs.] Yeah, I got Pinchy when I arrived. He destroys everything, and he always bites me. I've tried everything!

[Spike crosses his arms]

I don't really want smaller versions of him on my hands.

Hehe, well actually I wouldn't say there are a lot of them in my world. It's paranormal lore for a reason, nobody is really sure if they exist or not. But I do like ghosts, yes! They are probably my favorite supernatural being.

[Ghosts are rad, okay?]

Have you tried putting him in the box until his behavior shapes up? That can sometimes help. What is Pinchy anyway, like a crab or something?

[Okay. Somepony who like ghosts. Weird. Spike wondered if their cutie mark would be a picture of a ghost pony or something if they lived in Equestria. At least ghosts weren’t a normal phenomenon in this guy’s world. But actually…]

Er…do you know if there are ghosts here?

[Spike’s voice may have just come out an octave higher than normal. He clears his throat and tries to sound more dragonly manly.]

I mean uh, you know. Just to keep an eye out for them. Gotta protect the other ponies and all.  

[Smooth save Spike.]

Well, he doesn’t like to be in a pokeball, and I kind of feel bad for putting him in there not to mention he keeps just coming out anyway. I guess I could try it for a little while?

[The camera swings over to show Pinchy huffing menacingly at Acorn, and Acorn glaring at the pushy pokemon.]

That’s him over there. The orange one. He’s a Trapinch. According to my pokedex, he’s an Ant Pit pokemon whatever that means.

Well there are ghost types but other than that, I am not sure! There might be, there might not be... I haven't run across any though.

[He just assumes that "normal" ghosts here are like Earth ghosts.]

Oh, a Trapinch! Hehe, well in that case it might be something he grows out of as he evolves? I have a Flygon myself, but it didn't belong to me originally so I don't really know a whole lot about the line myself. But Trapinch always kind of looked like a biter to me. If nothing else, its mouth shrinks as it evolves and it gets less... toothy.

Well...I hope so, because it's annoying. I have bite marks all over my legs and hands. Maybe it's because he's still a baby pokemon?

[Cue Spike turning the camera so John can see the teeth marks on his hands.

Yes, ghost types! Have... you never seen one before? They are the smallest typing group but Gastlies at least are pretty common! They typically come out at night unless you're in a tower or a cave or something. Ghost types LOVE towers.

[True Pokémon fax.]

That could also be a possibility! Only time will tell. In the meantime...maybe you should get some kind of padding for your arms?

So what you're saying is, don't go out at night, and don't go into any towers. Especially at night.

Well... yeah if you want to avoid the ghosts, that would be the easiest way to do it. [But why would you want to?] They really aren't that bad though! Ghosts just have kind of a bad rep which... I guess isn't entirely undeserved. But there are plenty of good ghosts out there.

Hopefully the armguard thing will work out for you. I wish I had thought of that sooner, I would have saved myself a lot of bite marks a couple years ago...

The problem is this body is so squishy. I miss my scales. I wouldn't have a problem if I still had those.

What happened to you?

Oh yeah? So dragon scales are really as tough as they say then, huh?

[He seems genuinely curious about this. After all, the only dragons he has experience with are dragon TYPES and they aren't always exactly the same thing.]

Oh but the biting thing? My Umbreon likes to show his displeasure by biting. And since he's usually displeased, that means he's usually biting. Though he has gotten better about it with time! He doesn't bite me nearly as often as he used to ahahaha.

Oh yeah, are they ever! [Spike flexes, momentarily forgetting that right now, he doesn't have scales.]

Dragon scales are great! Not too hot, not too cold. And definitely stronger than this...stuff. [He pokes at his skin and grimaces.]

I mean, I feel like some like pink balloon here. I don't know how humans can survive.

[Spike adopts a pitying look.]

Yeah, Pinchy just bites whenever. I think he likes it.

I really hope he grows out of it, like your Umbreon.

Because he has really sharp teeth...

Hahaha, I swear if I had a nickel for every time I heard the skin complaint, I would be a very rich man. Or... maybe not since the currency here is different but you get what I mean.

Point is, it's always the flimsy skin with non-humans. [He laughs, he doesn't actually seem to mind the fact that he was just compared to a pink balloon. He's seriously heard it so many times at this point that it's just funny.]

But I guess I can't really blame any of you, I think I would have a similar reaction in the same sort of situation.

Hopefully Pinchy will stop liking it quite so much though, for your sake.

I think it's more of a fact than a complaint.

Is that why humans wear clothes? Because their skin is so flimsy? That seems pretty uneconomical.

Maybe I should just wear really really thick clothes so Pinchy can't bite through them...
