3rd Sapphire Cupcake: [Video / Action for Cianwood]

[The feed clicks on to Spike looking cheerful but a little dubious. He's sitting on an already made-bed, surrounded by four large eggs. Luckily his Trapinch is off destroying something else in another room, and his Pineco seemed content to stay sleeping on the window sill.]

Hi, it's Spike here, your friendly neighbourhood dragon.

So, everypony is out working or training right now, and I'm stuck here looking after these eggs.

[Yep, Spike may have gone a little overboard with his egg collecting. So being back at the inn 'egg-sitting' is his own fault really.]

Does anypony know exactly how to look after these guys? [He rubs an imaginary dirt mark off one with the edge of the blanket]

I mean, I'm not supposed to sit on them or anything, right? Coz that would be way too weird.... And Fluttershy went home before I came, so I can't ask her.

[He looks a little concerned now]

If anypony can give me any advice on what I'm supposed to do to hatch eggs, that would be great.

[Spike feels awful for Maka. He would be so scared and upset if his friends weren't here. Not that he'd admit that! Because he was Spike, the brave dragon!]

[Suddenly gives her a really bright grin]

Well, I can be your friend while you wait for your other friends! Although I'm pretty far from New Bark at the moment...

But if you need help or anything, let me know! I'm sure my friends would be happy to help too!

And you have a pokemon, right? I hope it's a good one that can protect you and not bite you like mine always does...

[Spike blinks, and then rapidly starts waving his arms]

No no, that's not it at all! I mean, of course I'll still be your friend! I just meant that I uh don't want you to be lonely or anything before your friends arrive and if you need help or anything then Spike the dragon is here, and I'd still like to be your friend after your friends arrive too...

[He's babbling, trying to explain.]

[Spike breathes a sigh of relief and then chuckles]

So what pokemon did you get? Hopefully a nicer one than Pinchy...

it immediately attaches itself to her head.]

She's nice, yeah, but a little too excitable sometimes. [that might be static electricity making her hair stand on end now.]

[Spike covers his mouth with both hands, trying to muffle laughter]

I guess she's got an electric personality.

What kind of pokemon is she? I haven't seen one like her before...

[Yeah, but she giggles anyway, it's not like Maka is the epitome of good taste.]

She's an Emolga, a flying squirrel type of Pokemon so--obviously--she has both the flying type and the electric type. I feel like that might come in handy later.

I haven't seen one like her before. She's pretty small.

Does her electricity hurt you? Because Pinchy's bites sure hurt, even though he doesn't look that big.

Mm...sometimes, a little bit. But she doesn't try to actively hurt me, sometimes she just has too much electricity stored in her body.

[Spike's finding this quite interesting, and grabs his notebook to jot some information down about electric pokemon.]

They can store it? You mean, kind of like magic?

But what happens if there's too much? Because that doesn't sound fun...

Umm...I guess! [She wouldn't know, she can't do magic.]

If there's too much, Bolt generally goes off and flies around to discharge it. Otherwise when you touch her, it's a lot like touching something charged with static electricity.

Huh. Well, I haven't really seen Twilight 'discharge' magic or anything. Maybe you can't get a build up of magic...

But what about if she uses it all up? She won't die or anything, right?

[Spike suddenly looks concerned, and pauses in his notetaking to look at Maka.]

[By the look on her face, she seems as though she hadn't considered that!]

Oh, gosh, I...I think they get sick or at least tired if they use up their electricity, but...if it got any worse, maybe they would die.

[HOW UPSETTING.]

[Spike realises he totally said the wrong thing, and a panicked look crosses his face as he tries frantically to backpedal.]

Oh, uh...I'm sure that's not the case! I mean, I'm pretty sure she'd know when she was running low or something and let you know, and then you could take her to a pokemon centre or something. I mean, it'd be like being hungry, you know? Everypony knows when they're hungry, and then she'd just have to replenish...

[Now he's just rambling in a rush, trying to ease Maka's mind.]

Ahh...

[Ironically, when he starts trying to ease her mind, she becomes embarrassed about freaking him out in the first place.]

No, no, don't worry about it! Bolt's smart, she'd tell me what's going on.

[Yes, Spike, she did in fact just say for YOU to not worry as opposed to her.]

Yeah, pokemon seem to be pretty smart. Sometimes a little too smart if you ask me.

Why did you name her Bolt?

Is it like, from lightning bolt? You know, because she's electric and everything.

Uh-huh! I know it's pretty cheesy, heh, but she's so speedy too I figured it was appropriate to name her after lightning itself.

Well, I named Pinchy Pinchy because he always bites me, and because he's a Trapinch.

So I guess we both give our pokemon some cheesy names. [He laughs]

Maybe that's why he doesn't like me?

I don't know if a Pokemon is entirely conscious of the meaning behind the names that you give them, they can probably like the sound of it while not getting the meaning.

[Shrug!]

I generally name mine after figures in mythology or characters from books, but maybe it's just in Pinchy's nature to bite? If he's a Trapinch and all.

What's a mythology figure? [Spike's not familiar with the word or how it relates in his world.]

That sounds like something Twilight would do. She loves books way too much.

It's probably why his mouth is so big. I just hope it doesn't get any bigger when he evolves.

Um, someone that's in a story that's been passed down for a really, really long time. A story that you're not sure is true or not, but mostly myths are considered to be not true.

[Give her a moment, she'll look up what a Trapinch evolves into.]

...Huh. Actually--[she shows him a picture]--it looks like Pinchy won't have a mouth at all when he evolves.

Oh! We have stories like that! Like the one about Nightmare Moon! Except that turned out to be real...

[Spike peers at the small image on the screen, brightening up.

No mouth! That's great!

Uh...how will he eat?

Well, since he looks like a bug, bugs have mouth parts that they use to feed. It just looks like he won't have those big teeth anymore, and maaaybe he won't bite so much.

Really? [Spike had never really given much thought about how bugs ate. That was more of a Fluttershy thing.]

I hope so. Because I'm pretty tired of it. Although this is Pinchy we're talking about. I bet he'll do something else just as painful or annoying.
