[The feed clicks on to Spike looking cheerful but a little dubious. He's sitting on an already made-bed, surrounded by four large eggs. Luckily his Trapinch is off destroying something else in another room, and his Pineco seemed content to stay sleeping on the window sill.]

Hi, it's Spike here, your friendly neighbourhood dragon.

So, everypony is out working or training right now, and I'm stuck here looking after these eggs.

[Yep, Spike may have gone a little overboard with his egg collecting. So being back at the inn 'egg-sitting' is his own fault really.]

Does anypony know exactly how to look after these guys? [He rubs an imaginary dirt mark off one with the edge of the blanket]

I mean, I'm not supposed to sit on them or anything, right? Coz that would be way too weird.... And Fluttershy went home before I came, so I can't ask her.

[He looks a little concerned now]

If anypony can give me any advice on what I'm supposed to do to hatch eggs, that would be great.

Oh, so it's like Rainbow Dash. She said she was a pony before she came here...do you know her?

[He did say "anypony" after all.]

Um, the average body temperature for a human is about 98 degrees Fahrenheit. Some humans run slightly hotter or colder than others, but anything extending into 100 degrees or below 90 is abnormal.

Oh you know Rainbow Dash? She's one of my best friends! I'm with her and the other ponies now.

[Spike gives Maka a big smile. Any friend of Rainbow Dash or the other ponies is a friend of his.]

[Spike really has no idea about how hot a dragon is supposed to be...]

Um, I really don't know how warm dragons are usually. Maybe Twilight knows...I'll have to ask her.

Yeah, she was one of the first people to greet me when I arrived, she's really cool!

[And nice and all that good friendship stuff.]

I don't think you should worry about that too much, just as long as you have some way of keeping the eggs warm it'll be okay.

Oh geez, come to think of it, I didn't introduce myself, sorry--my name's Maka. You said your name was Spike? [That's a really adorable name.]

So did you arrive in New Bark Town too? I've never met anypony called Maka before, so I guess you're not from Equestria?

Yep, I did, and...[she laughs, she can't say she's ever been asked if she was a pony before.] No, I've definitely always been a human. It seems like there are quite a few people from Equestria here, though, you're lucky!

Yeah! Almost all my friends are here, which is great. Only Fluttershy isn't, but that's because Twilight said she got sent home right after I arrived. I guess that's good, right?

[Spike has a realisation that maybe he actually got really lucky with his friends being here. There might be someponies whose friends haven't come with them...]

[That's a bit of a bummer but she's not going to make that apparent. No need to bum him out too.]

[Spike feels awful for Maka. He would be so scared and upset if his friends weren't here. Not that he'd admit that! Because he was Spike, the brave dragon!]

[Suddenly gives her a really bright grin]

Well, I can be your friend while you wait for your other friends! Although I'm pretty far from New Bark at the moment...

But if you need help or anything, let me know! I'm sure my friends would be happy to help too!

And you have a pokemon, right? I hope it's a good one that can protect you and not bite you like mine always does...

[Spike blinks, and then rapidly starts waving his arms]

No no, that's not it at all! I mean, of course I'll still be your friend! I just meant that I uh don't want you to be lonely or anything before your friends arrive and if you need help or anything then Spike the dragon is here, and I'd still like to be your friend after your friends arrive too...

[He's babbling, trying to explain.]

[Spike breathes a sigh of relief and then chuckles]

So what pokemon did you get? Hopefully a nicer one than Pinchy...

She's nice, yeah, but a little too excitable sometimes. [that might be static electricity making her hair stand on end now.]

I guess she's got an electric personality.

What kind of pokemon is she? I haven't seen one like her before...

[Yeah, but she giggles anyway, it's not like Maka is the epitome of good taste.]

She's an Emolga, a flying squirrel type of Pokemon so--obviously--she has both the flying type and the electric type. I feel like that might come in handy later.

I haven't seen one like her before. She's pretty small.

Does her electricity hurt you? Because Pinchy's bites sure hurt, even though he doesn't look that big.

Mm...sometimes, a little bit. But she doesn't try to actively hurt me, sometimes she just has too much electricity stored in her body.

[Spike's finding this quite interesting, and grabs his notebook to jot some information down about electric pokemon.]

They can store it? You mean, kind of like magic?

But what happens if there's too much? Because that doesn't sound fun...

Umm...I guess! [She wouldn't know, she can't do magic.]

If there's too much, Bolt generally goes off and flies around to discharge it. Otherwise when you touch her, it's a lot like touching something charged with static electricity.

Huh. Well, I haven't really seen Twilight 'discharge' magic or anything. Maybe you can't get a build up of magic...

But what about if she uses it all up? She won't die or anything, right?

[Spike suddenly looks concerned, and pauses in his notetaking to look at Maka.]

[By the look on her face, she seems as though she hadn't considered that!]

Oh, gosh, I...I think they get sick or at least tired if they use up their electricity, but...if it got any worse, maybe they would die.

[HOW UPSETTING.]

[Spike realises he totally said the wrong thing, and a panicked look crosses his face as he tries frantically to backpedal.]

Oh, uh...I'm sure that's not the case! I mean, I'm pretty sure she'd know when she was running low or something and let you know, and then you could take her to a pokemon centre or something. I mean, it'd be like being hungry, you know? Everypony knows when they're hungry, and then she'd just have to replenish...

[Now he's just rambling in a rush, trying to ease Maka's mind.]

[Ironically, when he starts trying to ease her mind, she becomes embarrassed about freaking him out in the first place.]

No, no, don't worry about it! Bolt's smart, she'd tell me what's going on.
